This was our last communication… 49 days ago. 143 died in the crash, 26 are crowded into a patchwork medbay, and the rest of us scratch around in this frigid waste as we watch our supplies dwindle. The Selerian’s emergency beacon was destroyed on impact, and our readings of what starmaps remain indicate this system isn’t on the charts.
We were en route to a newly discovered location at the edge of the Galactic Rim—a phenomenon that could hold answers to remedy the dire state of humankind. I don’t know why our scanners didn’t show this system, or what cracked the Selerian’s core, but we’re here, and we’ll have to find some way to continue our journey.
Though times are desperate, my heart was warmed when the first officer suggested a Christmas feast. It sounds ludicrous given our grim situation, but the gesture sparked something in me… in us all… for what is there to reach for when all hope fades? I’m reminded that a hope exists far beyond what this fragile life can contain… a midwinter’s blessing that echoes through the ages.
